9 Signs Your Job is Blocking Your Chakras

You're feeling overwhelmed and exhausted, even if you always considered yourself an over-achiever.

You're putting in long hours every day at work, taking on more than you can handle, and feeling like you have to do it all.

Does this sound like you?

Take a look at the list below.

If you're experiencing some or all of these signs and symptoms, then there's a good chance your energy system is unbalanced and you need to make some changes.

  1. Lack of physical or mental energy
  2. Insomnia
  3. Physical symptoms
  4. Anxiety, depression, or anger
  5. Loss of enjoyment
  6. Pessimism
  7. Detachment
  8. Increased irritability
  9. Lack or productivity and poor performance

Depending on how many of the above signs and symptoms your relate to, you may need to restore balance to one or more of your lower chakras, which include the root, sacral, and solar plexus energy centers.

Keep reading to find some easy ways to start yourself on the path to restoration and healing.

Good News / Bad News

The good news is that you can change the flow of energy in your body in order to feel better.

The bad news is that your job is not the only reason why you feel the way you do.

They Say You Can't Do It ~ But You Can If You Know How

Some researchers want you to believe that signs and symptoms of work-related chronic stress (and ultimately, burnout) can't be healed with self-treatment.

They say that the issues at work are the root cause of the stress you're experiencing and that you "cannot 'rest' your way out".

In other words, they think the only way to alleviate the symptoms is to fix whatever is going on at work.

I respectfully disagree with this idea because

  1.  It assumes that there is only one kind of rest - physical rest
  2.  It also assumes that work is the root cause of how you're feeling
  3.  It takes the power of healing out of your hands

The Power of a Relaxed Mind

I propose looking at rest in terms of taking the time to calm the mind.

Resting your mind gives you the ability to shift your energy and relax.

Developing a habit of resting the mind is an effective form of self-treatment for stress that can have a major impact on your health and overall well-being.

What's Really the Root Cause?

"It's all in your mind" is a phrase that can stir up defensive feelings and cause a lot of resistance to change.

I get that. I really do. I've been there.

But please hang on with me here for a minute. I'll try to be gentle.

I suggest that your stress level is something that you're choosing based on what you think the reality of your work situation is.

In other words, the stress you feel begins with your mind's reaction to what's going on in your environment.

Somewhere in your thought patterns that you've been creating over your whole life, you've developed thinking habits that (for good or bad) are able to trigger chemical processes in your body, including the stress response which begins in the brain.

There is a lot of science-y evidence to back this up, which you can read in this past blog post.

Your work environment is causing you to think certain things, which is shifting and blocking the energy of your chakras, ultimately creating stressful feelings in your body.

The root cause is not just your job - it's your thoughts. I'm not suggesting that your job isn't the reason for the stress. It very well may be. What I'm saying is don't let it become an excuse to stay stressed.

This is actually really good news.

Because if you can't change your job or the things that go on there, at least you know you can change your thoughts and feelings about it.

The Struggle for Control

Focusing on outside causes of your discomfort and suffering and placing blame for them on your situation at work, is like saying that your job is this huge thing that has the ability to make you feel lousy, day after day, when in fact you are much more powerful and in complete control of your emotions and how you think.

Your stress level is the energetic manifestation of your thoughts and feelings about:

  • yourself
  • your job
  • and your place within your particular work environment.

All of that thought energy is in your mind, and the feelings generated from those thoughts are energies found in your three lower chakras.

Your job is not continuing to drain your energy. You're doing it to yourself, whether you're aware of it or not. And believe me - I understand that's a hard pill to swallow. It feels so wrong and so incredibly unfair.

But in a tough work environment, we need to learn how to spiritually rise up to a higher level, shift and protect our energy, and take control of how we feel at the end of the day.

So, it's time to stop beating yourself up and stressing yourself out. Read on to discover which of your chakras have been affected by your stress at work, and some things you can try to help regain a sense of peace and balance.

What to Try: Resting the Mind and Restoring the Energies of Your Lower Chakras

Before You Begin Your Work Day

The beginning of the day is a time for preparation. We're waking up, cleaning up, and dressing up. Our energy is shifting and we're shaking off our sleepiness and becoming fully alert. We've all got morning rituals that we follow.

But how many of us think about protecting our energy before heading out the door?

Protecting your energy is something quick and easy you can do to guard against the lower negative energies, such as difficult experiences, you may encounter throughout the day.

Here are a few things you can do before you race out the door:

  • Stop a few moments to speak out loud personal affirmations of inner divine protection. Say them with confidence and certainty.
  • Visualize a shell of divine light surrounding you that nothing can penetrate

During the Day When You Feel Stressed

We're all human and we all feel stress. How we handle it is what helps us either get through it or stay stuck in it.

Here are a few ways to help you cope with stress at work:

  • Breathe. Just stop, stay still (you don't even need to close your eyes), and concentrate on your breath. Feel it coming in and going out. Focus your attention on where you feel it in your body. Gradually take deeper and slower breaths. Do this until you feel better (or as long as your work situation allows you to). Even just a few slow, deep breaths can make you feel better. Try working your way up to 15 minutes.
  • Walk. Even a comfortable stroll on a work break for 10 or 15 minutes can promote relaxation. Remember to do some shoulder rolls while you're at it.
  • Take a stone friend with you to work. Carrying crystals such as Black Tourmaline is as simple as tucking them into your pocket. Black Tourmaline works with your root chakra and helps you stay present, grounded, and it blocks negativity in your work space from getting into your aura. There are lots of crystals to choose from that are perfectly suited for helping with work-related stress!
  • Apply a few drops of a relaxing essential oil to your palm and rub your hands together. Then cup your hands over your face and inhale. If you don't want to walk around with the aroma on you, you can place a few drops on a tissue, wave it in front of you, and breathe it in that way. Lavender essential oil is the most popular for stress relief but there are many, many more.

At the End of the Day

Congratulations! You made it through another day. Now you can take the time to shift your focus into practices and rituals that balance your chakras to promote relaxation, self-love, gratitude, and connection with Spirit.

You might want to end your day with some of these:

  • Take a bath or shower with fragrant essential oils that soothe the mind and balance the energies of your lower chakras. For the root chakra try sandalwood. For the sacral chakra try clary sage. For the solar plexus chakra try orange.
  • Take 5 minutes to begin a meditation practice. Gradually increase the amount over time. Meditation is basically a spiritual practice that helps us gain a clear and accurate way of seeing things, and connects our energy to the energy source of all that is. Chakra meditation is particularly good at balancing the energies of your energy system.
  • Treat yourself to a Reiki session for relaxation, healing, and restoration of energy.
  • Create your own personal habits and rituals that express love for yourself and gratitude for all that you are and all that you have - including your job!
